History of This Coin
This coin was minted in 1977 by USSR, to help pay for the 1980 Moscow Summer Olympic Games. However, in December of 1979, the Soviets invaded Afghanistan, and the 1980 Summer Games were boycotted by many countries. Sixty-five countries that were invited to participate in the 1980 Olympics did not do so for various reasons including support for the boycott.
